Upwork is the leading freelance website that connects businesses of all sizes to freelancers, independent professionals, and agencies for their hiring needs. The expansion of the employee headcount required relocation to a new Headquarters space in Santa Clara. Upwork sought out a partner who could assemble and guide a team of professionals to give them a new space that reflected their core values: to inspire a boundless future of work, put their community first, and build amazing teams.


Through multiple RFP processes, Cresa assembled the design, construction, AV and furniture teams. Cresa coordinated the San Francisco based design team’s effort with the South Bay construction and furniture teams and acted as the liaison with the east coast based landlord representative. Estimates with alternates by the general contractor kept the process moving forward prior to contract signature without the typical delay for value engineering. The resulting space embodies Upwork’s core values of honesty and transparency. The new office allows all employees access to light and provides spaces for thinking and focused work, meeting spaces that facilitate communication between offices, and an dual purpose pantry/all hands space with integrated AV for global meetings.
