Our Office Renovation: Practicing What We Preach
As owner’s project managers, our role is simple: be the trusted advocate for our clients. We guide them through every phase of a renovation or construction project—from defining the scope and hiring the right team to manage budgets, schedules, and the daily details that keep things moving forward. Our job is to make sure every decision supports the owner’s best interests.
Last summer, we had the unusual chance to put ourselves in the client’s shoes. With our lease up for renewal, we saw an opportunity to expand into the neighboring space and rethink how our office could work better for our team and our clients. It wasn’t just about upgrading the look and feel. It was about reimagining how we use our footprint to support the way we work today, and how we want to grow in the future.
Taking on our own project was both exciting and humbling. It gave us a chance to put our process to the test, and along the way we picked up some valuable lessons.
Some of the challenges we faced:
- Managing expectations across the team. Just like any client, our colleagues had a wide range of preferences, priorities, and visions for the space.
- Making timely decisions. We always remind clients that quick, confident decisions keep projects on track. It turns out, that’s easier said than done when you’re the one making the call.
- Minimizing disruption. Keeping the business running while construction was underway required careful planning and constant communication.
- Reflecting our brand. We wanted the design to feel like Cresa—true to our national brand standards, but also authentic to who we are locally.
- Staying on budget. Even with our experience, it took discipline and creativity to balance quality, functionality, and cost.
These challenges weren’t new to us, but living them firsthand gave us a deeper sense of empathy for our clients. It reminded us why having a dedicated project manager makes such a difference. We leaned on the same tools, processes, and instincts we use every day, and in the end, we created a workspace we’re proud of.
Today, our new office feels like a true extension of our team: flexible, welcoming, and designed with intention. It supports how we work now and where we’re headed next. If you’re considering a renovation, expansion, or relocation, we’d love to help. We’ve been in your shoes, and we’re even better project managers because of it.
