Thank You, Veterans

When I woke up this morning, I reached over to turn off my alarm and saw I had a few texts.  They all said happy Veteran’s Day, thank you for what you did.  I have an amazing group of friends and family who supported me throughout my entire time in the military and never questioned what I was doing.  I started the rest of my morning routine, grabbed my coffee, and headed out the door.  That’s when I started to think about what Veteran’s Day means to me and what it means for other people.  To me, it is a day of respect for not only those who have served, but for those who are still in.  For those who are still overseas banging hammers so that we can sleep safely at night.

Unfortunately, this year Veteran’s Day followed shortly after the presidential election.  Whether you are happy or not with this year’s election, don’t let that deter you from remembering that we live in the greatest country on earth.  One that many of my brothers and sisters have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect.  I want people to take a step back from their own world today and dedicate it to the thoughts of those who have served and still are active.

If you see a veteran today, buy them a drink and say thank you.  A lot of us who have served take today to remember our friends we have lost.  We remember the good, bad, and the ugly.  Most importantly, we remember how they impacted our lives to make us better.  Take today to remember how lucky we are to live in a country that allows us freedoms nowhere else in the world can, and those who have fought for it.  Take today to remember to say thank you to those who served in the past and still do now.  Take today to remember those who have given their life for their country.

“There is no greater love than to lay one’s life down for one’s friend.”   John 15:13

Thanks.
