Explore Sunny San Diego

It’s no secret that San Diego is known for its beautiful year-round weather full of sunshine and near-perfect climate. Unlike many areas of the country, the weather here remains mostly enjoyable in every season with the inclement weather being scarce.
 
Even going into fall, there are still many outdoor activities for those living in the San Diego area to get out and enjoy. From surfing at the beach and snorkeling in a cove to bouldering in the desert, the outdoor options are truly limitless. Here are some of the best areas to explore and events to check out in San Diego.


La Jolla/Bird Rock
With natural beaches and hidden coves, La Jolla has breathtaking views of the ocean. Catch some waves at Windansea Beach and snorkel with friendly leopard sharks near La Jolla Shores. You can also watch the seals bask in the sun near La Jolla’s cove—just make sure to plug your nose.

Explore Torrey Pines and relish the coastal views throughout a hike that’s perfect for all abilities.

 

Pacific Beach/Mission Beach
Enjoy frolicking in the water and hitting the volleyball courts at one of these bustling beaches. Relax with morning yoga on a cliff or test out your balance with sunset paddle board yoga. If you’re feeling more active, then you can rent a sailboat, kayak, or jet ski and cruise around the bay. The expansive 3 ½ mile boardwalk that runs from Pacific Beach to Mission Beach, offering the perfect place to bike, roller blade, or even walk your dog.

For fun with the whole family, head to Belmont Park where you can try your hand at a carnival game, ride the wooden roller coaster or zip line above the crowds.


Point Loma
Slide down from the beaches to the breathtaking cliff views of Point Loma. True to its name, Sunset Cliffs National Park is the perfect spot to watch a sunset or a para-glider coast over the ocean.

You can grab a beer at Eppig Brewing and jump in on one of their famous yoga classes too.

Continue down to the Cabrillo National Monument to get a 360-degree view of downtown San Diego, Coronado, and even Mexico. Nearby Liberty Station offers a wide selection of food and shopping on the site of a former Naval Training Center.


Little Italy
Overflowing with delicious choices, Little Italy is a food-lovers paradise. The newly renovated Piazza della Famiglia is a pedestrian-only area in the heart of Little Italy and offers close access to the new Maritime-themed food hall filled with local vendors.

Every Saturday, the Little Italy Mercato Farmer’s Markets features fresh produce, bouquets of flowers, and other local goodies to enjoy.


Downtown/Gaslamp
Kick-off San Diego Beer Week at Guild Fest in Embarcadero Marina Park South. Along with sampling beers from over 60 independent brewing companies you can enjoy fare from the on-site food trucks. Embrace fall with your family at Gaslamp Quarter Fallback Festival where you can enjoy an old-fashioned hay ride and even pan for gold.


Coronado
Drive over the winding Coronado Bay Bridge or take a ferry over to Coronado’s white, sandy beach—one of the best in San Diego.

Stop at the Hotel del Coronado—a National Historic Landmark—and enjoy a meal on the terrace or roast smores on the fire pits at night.

Downtown Coronado is also a lively location with plenty of shops to browse and neighborhoods full of stunning houses.

 

North Park
Full of young, trendy professionals, North Park, boasts an array of art studios and galleries to explore. The historic Observatory North Park is a popular venue for weekly concerts.

Head to the Taste of North Park on October 13 where you can spend all day sampling from some of the best restaurants and breweries that San Diego has to offer.


Hillcrest/Balboa

Citywide
