Education Corporation of America (ECA) engaged CresaPartners to provide project management and sustainability advisory services for their new prototype “green” education facility, the Ecotech Institute. Ecotech Institute is the first and only college entirely devoted to preparing students for careers in renewable energy and sustainable design. The school will offer eight different programs including Electrical Engineering Technology, Energy and Environmental Paralegal, Solar Energy Technology, and Wind Energy Technology.
The intent was to ensure that sustainable real estate practices were incorporated where appropriate to maximize benefit to the core business functions.
Cresa assisted ECA in the development and implementation of this new prototype “green” education platform. A process was followed to examine the impact of sustainability from four levels: overall business/corporate strategy, corporate finance, corporate real estate and the specific project.
Among other features, ECA incorporated solar and wind energy equipment on site/building, provided a “living laboratory” experience for renewable energy and sustainable design, created an external image of sustainability, incorporated building design practices that reflect the curriculum, and going forward have made a commitment to manage the building in a way that maintains sustainable practices, retains their brand image, and reflects Ecotech’s curriculum. The project is registered with the USGBC to receive LEED Silver certification for building design and construction. In addition, the project team is pursuing a variety of certifications, including Energy Star rating, Net Zero energy status, 2030 Challenge.
