Get to Know Mike Whitten

Mike is a Senior Advisor with Cresa's Portland office where he believes in taking a strategic approach to real estate and aligning short term goals and needs with long-term business plans. Mike concentrates on advising both office and industrial clients and focuses on companies located in the Pacific Northwest and larger corporate clients.

To get to know Mike on a more personal level, we asked him the following questions.

What is your favorite restaurant in Portland?

OX and Por Que No are a couple that come to mind!

What activities do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Traveling and seeing new places with my wife, camping with friends in the summer, BBQ ’n, running, Corn Hole and trying to get out and snowboard when we can! I also enjoy staying active and involved with Oregon State University where I went to school.

Why did you decide to become a commercial real estate broker?

I have always had a passion for real estate and have always wanted a career that allows you to be able to spend time with your family and grow your business and life the way that you feel is right. Commercial real estate has allowed me to do all these things. I got an opportunity through a partner (Blake St. Onge) to get into the business back in 2013 and felt it was a great opportunity. The rest is history!

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

I think the best advice I have received is just taking things day by day and not thinking of all the things that need to be done. Whatever your story and situation may be, taking the 24 hours in front of you for the day can allow us to focus on what we need to do to be productive and doesn’t let all the other things in life bog you down.

What do you like best about working for Cresa?

I really feel that we have something special in our Portland office and are growing our business in the right ways. We have a close-knit group that works together well, I am excited to see what the future holds. Plus, when you connect with teams from other offices, you realize we are all headed in the same direction and all aligned. It’s a great feeling!

What are your favorite books?

Not necessarily my favorite books, but ones that I have enjoyed or recently read include Believe It by Nick Foles which focuses on the author’s journey of success, failure and overcoming the odds. Another is How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie. It's always a good reminder to look at the big picture and not get too wrapped up in your work life. Lastly, if you haven’t read Living with a SEAL by Jesse Itzler, do it!
