Gymshark one of the UK's fastest growing companies, opens North American HQ in Denver
One of the fastest-growing companies in the United Kingdom that’s working to become one of the biggest fitness brands in the world, alongside companies like Nike, Under Armour and Lululemon, has quietly set up its North American headquarters in downtown Denver.
After an extensive search for a U.S. location, Gymshark, a fitness apparel company that has exploded globally by being one of the first brands to rely on social media influencers to market its products, landed on the Mile High City, saying Denver met all of the company’s requirements and exceeded expectations.
“I’m blown away by Denver,” founder Ben Francis told Denver Business Journal. “Most importantly, the nature and vibe of Denver aligns with our brand. There are so many young people here and we think it’s going to be a perfect location for us."
The company, which required a city with a direct flight to London Heathrow Airport and a growing population, also considered San Diego, Austin and Dallas, Francis said.
Today, there’s only a handful of employees working out of the CTRL Collective co-working space at the Dairy Block in the Union Station neighborhood. That number is expected to increase to as many as 30 people in the first year and closer to 50 over the next couple of years.
The Denver office will include roles in customer support, athlete management, marketing, brand creative and sales.
Peter Arch, general manager of GymShark North America, needed temporary space in Denver for interviews and as the business here got off the ground. He toured three different WeWork locations, but determined it wasn’t a good fit for the company. The space was too tight, he said, and it didn’t feel creative enough for the team.
After striking out on those visits, his broker, Brielle Drelick, with Cresa in Denver, scrapped the rest of the day and took him over to CTRL Collective in the Dairy Block, a space where she had placed other companies at in the past.
“That office is designed to be more of a creative space,” Drelick said. “They have a green room and a lot of open space. [Gymshark] does lots of photo and video shoots — it just made sense for them to be there.”
The upscale, industrial-chic space features exposed beams, big windows and plenty of open and private working space.
Drelick is currently searching for about 5,000 square feet of more permanent space for the company as it grows over the next couple years.
