Market

The capital of Wisconsin, Madison is a cosmopolitan city with a population of over half a million people.   A premier meeting and convention destination, Madison offers both small- town charm and a range of cultural and recreational opportunities usually found in much larger urban centers . Madison has the most restaurants per capita of any city in the United States and ranks second in the nation per capita book purchases. Madison is renowned for offering an excellent quality of life with nationally-recognized healthcare and education systems. It consistently ranks as a top community in which to live, work, play, and raise a family.

It boasts myriad art fairs and farmers markets, a newly-constructed Overture Center for the Arts and Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center on the shores of beautiful Lake Monona, designed by Wisconsin-born architectural pioneer Frank Lloyd Wright. Nestled amidst four freshwater lakes, Madison is perfect for kayaking, sailing and boating enthusiasts. It is one of the nation's most scenic cities with abundant hiking and biking trails within its more than 200 parks. Home to Trek Bicycle, the largest bike manufacturer in the U.S., the Madison area is filled with so many cycling trails that city planners often refer to the region as North America's Bike Capital. 

Madison also boasts one of lowest unemployment rates in the nation (6.5 %).  Contributing to low unemployment are the nationally-acclaimed University of Wisconsin and state Government  positions .  However, while these institutions create a strong employment base, t he se sectors account for only 20 % of Madison's jobs. Much of the remainder stem from a strong mix of financial and professional services (including American Family, CUNA Mutual, and Alliant Energy), and technology and biotechnology firms. The Madison region now has more than 250 biotech companies employing 10,000 workers, a 64% increase in local biotech jobs since 2000. And the city is friendly for start-ups, with five business incubators that fuel employment.
